Great Outcome
This unit is specially designed with a problem bank consisting of problems of the week. These selective problems for teachers and students explore outcomes using probability and statistics. Some of the concepts for exploration include dependent and independent events, the counting principle, and permutations. The rolling of the number cube is a computer simulation that is included in this unit. The purpose of this is for teachers to challenge their students with problems involving larger numbers. Teachers can extend some of these problems and have students figure out the results of the 200th roll of a number cube. Students can organize their results using data tables.
This unit is intended to prepare 6th and 7th grade students to perform at advanced and proficient levels on the PSSA, standardized test, and to close the math gap in Data Probability and Statistics. This unit incorporates problems from the Prentice Hall mathematics program, problems taken from the PSSA coach book along with National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) standards to solve probability problems in middle school classrooms.
