Learning Physics and Math: An Aesthetic Approach

This unit uses the concept of patterns to buttress the teaching of physics and math to 9th graders in the School District of Philadelphia. It presents working definitions of tessellations and symmetry, introduces the concept of wave motion, and provides activities and formulas to help students improve their skills in working with physics and math concepts.

The unit is intended to be taught in at least four weeks with a focus on how to help students learn physics and math while applying their abilities in music and other artistic expressions. Hopefully, they will utilize these inherent or already acquired artistic skills to remove the boredom they experience, and the fear they have about learning science.
