The Black Press and the Philadelphia Tribune

This unit is suitable for eleventh and twelfth grade advanced level United States History students and is designed to give background historical information on the development of the Black press in the United States and its significance to the Black community.

The Philadelphia Tribune will serve as the local focus. The unit can be covered in a two-week period and is prepared for students in senior high school United States history or social science classes. The lessons are also in line with Pennsylvania state standards.
