The Teachers Institute of Philadelphia (TIP) provides academic professional development seminars to Philadelphia public school teachers at the University of Pennsylvania.

Yale National Initiative Fall Conference

On October 28 and 29, the 2016 Yale National Fellows and administrators from Teachers Institutes gathered in New Haven for the Yale National Initiative's annual fall conference. This gathering highlights curriculum units that National Fellows created during the intensive summer Institute, and how those curriculum units were implemented in the classroom.

Sydney Coffin, Edison/Fareira High School – ‘Over the Rainbow’: Fantasy Lands, Dream Worlds and Magic Kingdoms

Klint Kanopka, The Academy at Palumbo – The Number Line in the Common Core

Kathleen Radebaugh, Henry C. Lea School – Why Literature Matters

The conference was attended by TIP’s founding director, Dr. Alan Lee and incoming director, Mr. Edward Epstein. TIP’s National Fellows were grateful for the opportunity to celebrate Dr. Lee’s retirement with YNI colleagues from all over the United States.

The units will be shared on the Yale National Initiative's website for reference and use by teachers everywhere. Congratulations to all 2016 National Fellows for taking part this distinguished professional development program!

Spring Gathering 2016

TIP’s 2016 Spring Gathering was held on Tuesday, May 24, bringing together TIP Fellows from all four seminars to celebrate the end of another successful program year.

After refreshments and conversation, TIP’s director, Alan Lee, welcomed the Fellows and Seminar Leaders. One Fellow from each seminar shared reflections on their experiences and what they gained from TIP this year:

Five TIP Teachers Selected as 2016 National Fellows by the Yale National Initiative

The Teachers Institute of Philadelphia is pleased to announce that five teachers have been selected to represent TIP as National Fellows at the Yale National Initiative’s seminar program at Yale University this July. The Fellows and the seminars they'll participate in are:
